Her dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico has given her the freedom to work as a real estate agent in San Diego, California and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Mercedes stared her career as a real estate professional in 2001 with Prudential California Realty in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego County where she specialized In Spanish-speaking buyers and sellers.
